Do you ever struggle to get going on Monday?
It doesn’t happen to me often, but when it does…OH BOY!
By the end of the yesterday I felt both frustrated and unproductive. I’d been procrastinating all day. Only the simplest tasks on my to do list had been completed. Everything that required thought or effort or creativity was still there….staring back at me.
Rather than beat myself up, I reminded myself that sometimes these things happen. I set aside the thought of work for the rest of the day and vowed to start differently today.
planning the day right
And so I woke up early this morning and reviewed my to do list.
I spent some time checking that the tasks on there are set to get me closer to the goals I’ve set for this year. They all do.
I reminded myself of the importance of those goals and why I want to achieve them in 2018.
I motivated myself by imagining what business will be like once I have completed everything on this list.
And with this process, I’ve now knocked off 4 of my 7 items in just 2 hours.
what was different?
Reminding myself of WHY everything on this list is important removed all excuses for procrastinating.
It was simple…
If I don’t complete x, y, and z I will not get where I want to be this year. And the only person I can blame for that is myself.
But to get to this level of confidence in how you are spending and scheduling your time, you need to have a plan!
the right way to plan
Last week I hosted our first entrepreneurs’ meetup in Nairobi and this session was all about planning for 2018.
We all wanted same thing – clarity on what’s important for business this year and how to actually achieve it.
And so I created a super simple template to help everyone get 2018 to the right start.
In this planning template…
- you’ll start with a review on 2017 and learn what went well and where you fell short
- then you’ll set your sights on 31 December 2018 and imagine where you actually want to be
- finally, you’ll set your goals for the year and break each of them down into small manageable steps to keep you on track.
No more confusion. No more procrastinating.
no more excuses
Too often I hear excuses from entrepreneurs on why something hasn’t been done yet.
“I don’t know how to…”
“I’m worried that…”
“I’m too busy for…”
“I want to do this but…”
The truth is that the only way you’re really going to succeed in achieving your goals if you cut out the excuses, step out of your comfort zone and JUST DO IT.
